Samarkand, August 25, 2025 – The Europe Today: Upon his arrival in Samarkand, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in keeping with tradition, first visited the mausoleum of Imam Bukhari. On this occasion, verses from the Holy Quran were recited and a dua was offered. The Head of State also inspected the creative and construction works being carried out at the sacred site.
Imam Bukhari, widely revered as one of the greatest muhaddiths in the Islamic world, continues to draw deep respect and admiration from millions of Muslims. Thousands of believers aspire to visit his mausoleum each year. To provide greater facilities for pilgrims, a large-scale architectural complex is being developed, which has now expanded to 44 hectares.
The new ensemble includes a mausoleum, a mosque accommodating 10,000 worshippers, and an administrative building. Four minarets, each rising 75 meters high, add to the grandeur of the site. Finishing works are currently in progress, with portals and terrace walls adorned with calligraphic inscriptions featuring hadiths from Sahih al-Bukhari.
President Mirziyoyev underscored that the complex should serve not only as a place of worship but also as a center of science, enlightenment, education, and moral guidance. He highlighted that the knowledge, works, and personal qualities of Imam Bukhari remain a noble example, particularly for the younger generation.
To further this vision, an innovative museum is being established within the complex. It will present the life and scholarly contributions of Imam Bukhari—honored as the “Sultan of Muhaddiths”—alongside his pivotal role in the development of Islamic science and enlightenment. The museum will also feature exhibits on the history of the 25 prophets mentioned in the Quran, the genealogy of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), his life in Mecca and Medina, and the collection and recording of hadiths.
In addition, a hotel and other facilities for pilgrims are nearing completion adjacent to the site. The President gave instructions to ensure high-quality completion of the works, further expand amenities for visitors, and increase the number of green spaces surrounding the complex.
