Araghchi Urges Immediate Global Action to End Genocide in Gaza at OIC Meeting

Tehran, August 26, 2025 – The Europe Today: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called for urgent and concrete international measures to end what he described as the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza, warning that history “will not forgive” any further delay in alleviating the plight of the Palestinian people.

Araghchi delivered the remarks on Monday in Jeddah, where foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) convened for an extraordinary meeting on the escalating Israeli attacks against Gaza. The meeting was held following a formal request by Iran, submitted by Araghchi to the OIC Secretary General on August 6.

“The tragedy of Gaza does not concern only Muslims. It is a test for the global conscience,” Araghchi said. “Therefore, we call on all nations, regardless of religion or geography, to stand on the side of humanity, justice, and dignity, which is the right side of history. History will not forgive delay. Gaza cannot wait. The time for action is now.”

In his speech, the Iranian foreign minister condemned what he termed “the organized destruction of a besieged people by a ruthless apartheid regime,” accusing Israel of carrying out systematic massacres, starvation policies, and the deliberate annihilation of Gaza’s civilian population.

“This is not a conventional war. It is collective punishment, a policy of domination, and an assault that bears all the hallmarks of genocide,” he stressed, citing violations of international law and the Geneva Conventions.

Araghchi urged OIC member states to move beyond verbal condemnations and adopt concrete measures, including political, economic, and legal actions such as sanctions, boycotts, and coordinated international pressure. He also called for accountability in international courts against those responsible for war crimes and for severing relations with the occupying regime.

“Appeasement in the past has yielded no results and will not in the future,” he said, emphasizing the need to confront the complicity of governments that supply Israel with weapons and shield it from accountability.

He further described Gaza as “a witness and symbol of resistance” and urged Muslim nations to demonstrate unity and leadership in supporting the Palestinian people. “To remain silent is to wound ourselves, and courageous action is the path to healing,” he said.

Araghchi concluded by expressing hope that the extraordinary OIC gathering would be remembered not merely for speeches but as a turning point where the Muslim world moved “from silence to strong leadership, from passive witness to decisive will.”
