Azerbaijani, Romanian Lawmakers Discuss Expansion of Interparliamentary Cooperation

Baku, August 26, 2025 – The Europe Today: Members of the Milli Majlis’ working group on interparliamentary relations with Romania held a meeting with a visiting delegation led by Cristian Augustin Niculescu-Țâgârlaș, Chair of the Romanian Senate’s Committee on Culture and Media and member of the Romania-Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group.

Azay Guliyev, Head of the Milli Majlis Working Group on Azerbaijan-Romania Inter-Parliamentary Relations, welcomed the Romanian delegation and commended Niculescu-Țâgârlaș’s visit to Azerbaijan’s liberated territories, particularly the symbolic climb to the “Heydar Aliyev” peak. He highlighted the positive contribution of interparliamentary cooperation to strengthening bilateral relations, underscoring the role of parliamentary friendship groups in advancing this partnership. Guliyev also stressed the importance of cooperation within international organizations and the further enhancement of parliamentary diplomacy.

Sharing impressions from his visit to the Karabakh economic region, Niculescu-Țâgârlaș described the ascent to the “Heydar Aliyev” peak as a profound tribute to the memory of the National Leader of Azerbaijan. He praised the restoration and reconstruction efforts underway in the region under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev and expressed confidence in the potential of enhanced cooperation between the two countries and their legislatures.

Other members of the Azerbaijan-Romania interparliamentary group, including Kamal Jafarov, Aydin Mirzazade, and Samir Valiyev, as well as Florin Andrejkuts, head of the Maramureș County Bar Association, emphasized that bilateral relations continue to develop successfully through active high-level dialogue. They underlined the importance of sustaining mutually beneficial cooperation on both bilateral and international parliamentary platforms.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on issues of shared interest.
