Prague, August 26, 2025 – The Europe Today: Zdena Salivarová, acclaimed Czech author and translator, has passed away at the age of 91, Czech Radio reported, citing the Czech Consul in Toronto, Šárka Ponroy-Vamberová.
Salivarová was the wife of renowned writer Josef Škvorecký, with whom she had lived in Toronto since 1969. Together, the couple not only authored their own works but also published books by other exiled writers through their legendary publishing house, Sixty Eight Publishers.
In recognition of their exceptional contribution to Czech literature abroad, both Salivarová and Škvorecký were awarded the Order of the White Lion in 1990. Josef Škvorecký passed away in 2012.
