Samarkand, August 26, 2025 – The Europe Today: At the Congress Center in Samarkand, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The discussions centered on strengthening political dialogue, cultural-humanitarian exchanges, and expanding trade, economic, and investment cooperation.
At the outset of the meeting, King Abdullah II expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Mirziyoyev for the invitation and the warm hospitality accorded to the Jordanian delegation. It was underlined that this first-ever high-level visit in the history of bilateral relations marks a new stage in cooperation, paving the way for elevating ties to a comprehensive partnership.
The leaders highlighted the deepening friendship and multifaceted practical cooperation between Uzbekistan and Jordan, noting the similarity of reform strategies being pursued in both countries. Satisfaction was expressed with the effective interaction to date, alongside a mutual commitment to further enhance support for initiatives within the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and other international organizations.
Both sides emphasized the importance of continuing constructive dialogue between foreign ministries and maintaining close interagency contacts. They confirmed their intention to significantly boost bilateral trade, implement joint investment projects, and ensure the practical realization of trade agreements.
An agreement was reached to expand cooperation in the chemical and textile industries, smart agriculture, geology, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, tourism, and other key sectors. The parties also proposed establishing an Intergovernmental Commission and a Business Council, with their inaugural sessions to be held by the end of this year. The Uzbekistan–Jordan Business Forum, featuring leading enterprises from both nations, will serve to foster long-term partnerships.
Cultural, educational, and tourism exchanges were also on the agenda, with plans to organize joint cultural weeks, concerts, exhibitions, and expositions. The leaders stressed the significance of studying shared spiritual heritage and enhancing cooperation between Islamic research centers and institutes of both countries. They also underscored the need for the joint promotion of tolerant and enlightened Islam. President Mirziyoyev commended King Abdullah II’s Aqaba Process initiative, launched a decade ago, and suggested hosting one of its forthcoming sessions in Samarkand.
It was further noted that launching regular flights between the capitals and introducing a visa-free regime would stimulate business activity and mutual tourism flows. The leaders also exchanged views on pressing regional and global issues.
At the conclusion of the talks, King Abdullah II extended an official invitation to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev to visit Jordan.
The meeting was conducted in a constructive, open, and trusting atmosphere, reaffirming the shared commitment of both nations to advancing bilateral relations to new heights.
