President Mirziyoyev Reviews Final Stage of Islamic Civilization Center in Tashkent

Mirziyoyev

Tashkent, August 30, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on August 29 visited the Center of Islamic Civilization in Tashkent to review the progress of final finishing and installation works at the landmark complex, which is nearing completion.

The large-scale project was initiated by a Presidential resolution on June 23, 2017, with the foundation stone laid during Ramadan Hayit (Eid al-Fitr) in 2018. Designed in the style of Uzbekistan’s ancient architectural monuments, the complex features soaring national domes, ornate portals 34 meters high on all four sides, and a central dome rising 65 meters above the structure.

At the heart of the center lies the Hall of the Quran, which will house the ancient Uthman Mushaf, one of the most revered relics of the Muslim world. The hall will also display handwritten Qurans from the eras of the Samanids, Karakhanids, Khwarezmshahs, Uzbek Khan, Timurids, and other dynasties, along with their translations into Old Uzbek and rare manuscripts from global collections. Reviewing the design, President Mirziyoyev provided recommendations for its final touches.

The complex also includes a 460-seat conference hall, equipped with advanced technology to host major international meetings and forums. It will feature exhibitions dedicated to key stages of history: “Civilizations Before Islam,” “The First Renaissance,” “The Second Renaissance,” “Uzbekistan in the 20th Century,” and “New Uzbekistan – New Renaissance.” These displays will present artifacts, manuscripts, and multimedia resources highlighting the contributions of great scholars and thinkers such as Khwarizmi, Fergani, Farabi, Beruni, Ibn Sina, Mirzo Ulugbek, Alisher Navoi, Zahiriddin Babur, and many others.

Special attention will also be given to the legacy of prominent Islamic scholars and spiritual leaders, including Imam Bukhari, Imam Termizi, Imam Maturidi, and Bahauddin Naqshband. The contributions of influential women in science and culture, such as Bibikhanum, Khonzodabegim, Gavharshodbegim, and Nodirabegim, will likewise be showcased.

President Mirziyoyev stressed that the center will serve as a hub for in-depth research into Uzbekistan’s heritage and a platform to address contemporary challenges through cooperation with the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan and other international research institutions.

“For eight years, tremendous work has been carried out here. We have built a majestic center whose depth and significance cannot be overestimated. Every guest who visits will be filled with respect for the knowledge and wisdom of our ancestors and will find spiritual inspiration here,” the Head of State said.

The President also inspected adjacent commercial and service facilities, which are expected to enhance tourism and contribute to the development of the surrounding area.
