Oana Toiu Participates in EU Foreign Ministers’ Gymnich Meeting in Copenhagen

Oana Toiu

Copenhagen, August 31, 2025 – The Europe Today: Oana Toiu took part in the Gymnich meeting of EU foreign ministers in Copenhagen, a gathering held at a pivotal time for the European Union’s foreign policy priorities and Romania’s strategic interests.

During the discussions, Oana Toiu emphasized several key priorities on her agenda:

  • Prioritizing the security of the Danube and the Black Sea, especially in light of Russia’s recent aggressions.
  • Presenting the conclusions of the trilateral meeting in Chernauti, in the Odessa format (Romania–Republic of Moldova–Ukraine), focusing on upcoming European and national investments in connectivity.
  • Proposing future steps to strengthen EU decision-making on security and foreign policy, ensuring a stronger, more proactive European voice on the global stage.
  • Highlighting the joint demand of all 27 EU countries to secure the necessary visas for diplomats attending the UN General Assembly in New York, while underlining that dialogue between Israel and Palestine remains essential for peace in the Middle East.
  • Holding bilateral meetings with Finland and Slovakia to deepen relations, strengthen coordination on the eastern flank, and discuss Romania’s accession to the OECD, an ongoing priority of the government.

The Gymnich meeting, organized twice a year since its first edition 50 years ago at Gymnich Castle in Germany, continues to provide a platform for open and informal debates on Europe’s most pressing foreign policy issues.

Oana Toiu expressed appreciation to Denmark and Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen for hosting the event, and to Kaja Kallas for moderating the six-hour debates. She also noted the value of the parallel informal meeting of EU defense ministers and the parliamentary gathering with Romanian participation, which contributed to strengthening parliamentary diplomacy.
