Jakarta, September 02, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto on Monday convened a closed-door dialogue at the State Palace with leaders of community groups, interfaith organizations, labor unions, and political parties, reaffirming his commitment to addressing public concerns on governance, legislation, and civil liberties.

The extensive discussions saw participants voice strong criticism of government policies, highlighting issues such as the perceived arrogance and lavish lifestyles of officials, restricted democratic space, and the slow pace of pending legislation. Among the urgent priorities raised were the Asset Confiscation Bill and the Manpower Bill.

Andi Gani Nena Wea, Chairman of the All-Indonesian Workers Union Confederation (KSPSI), noted that President Prabowo pledged to expedite the legislative process in coordination with the House of Representatives (DPR). “The president promised to immediately initiate discussions with DPR Speaker Puan Maharani and political parties. They agreed to move forward,” he stated.

Said Iqbal, President of the Indonesian Trade Unions Confederation (KSPI), stressed the importance of safeguarding the right to protest. “Demonstrations are a vital outlet for workers, farmers, students, and ordinary citizens when institutions fail to respond. These must remain peaceful and constitutional. The President agrees with this principle,” he said.

Reverend Jacklevyn Frits Manuputty, Chairman of the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI), described the dialogue as “open and candid,” noting that participants raised concerns ranging from excessive taxation and corruption to increased allowances for DPR members. “The President and Speaker responded directly,” he added.

The gathering concluded with a joint prayer led by religious leaders, symbolizing unity among diverse civic voices and national leadership.

The dialogue is widely viewed as part of President Prabowo’s broader effort to preserve public trust and demonstrate his willingness to engage with critics as he prepares to begin his upcoming term in office.
