Beijing, September 03, 2025 – The Europe Today: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has emphasized that countering unilateralism and promoting multilateralism were among the key achievements of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit, which he attended in Tianjin, China, on Monday.

Speaking to reporters en route to Beijing, President Pezeshkian said the SCO provides a valuable platform for dialogue with the heads of member states as well as participants of the SCO Plus format. “We also held constructive talks with the heads of participating countries on the sidelines of these two summits,” he noted, adding that such discussions have fostered greater coordination and interaction among nations.

The President stressed that opposing unilateralism and advancing multilateral cooperation were central themes of the summit. He underlined that global governance must rest on justice, fairness, the restoration of rights, and respect for the sovereignty of all nations.

Highlighting Iran’s priorities, Pezeshkian said the meetings held on the sidelines of the SCO Summit would pave the way for expanding cooperation in mutually beneficial areas, with efforts focused on translating agreements into practical outcomes. He also pointed to Iran’s commitment to upgrading its rail transport network, describing it as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly mode of development that could significantly reduce road traffic.

On the sidelines of the summit, President Pezeshkian met with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and the presidents of Russia, Türkiye, and Tajikistan, discussing avenues for strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
