Beijing, September 04, 2025 – The Europe Today: President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has proposed strengthening bilateral trade and cooperation with China through expanded exports and new joint initiatives, according to official Turkmen media.
The proposal was made during his meeting on Tuesday in Beijing with Ding Xuexiang, member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China and First Vice Premier of the State Council.
President Berdimuhamedov highlighted opportunities to expand Turkmenistan’s exports of textiles, chemical industry products, agricultural goods, and petroleum products to China. He also underscored the importance of the Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee as a key mechanism in coordinating joint efforts and unlocking the full potential of Turkmen-Chinese economic relations.
Beyond trade, the Turkmen leader suggested launching new joint projects in science, education, culture, and high technology, including artificial intelligence. These initiatives would involve collaboration with institutions such as the International Science and Technology Park of the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan, Oguz Khan Engineering and Technology University, and the Institute of Telecommunications and Informatics.
Both sides reaffirmed the strategic and long-term nature of Turkmenistan–China relations, emphasizing the value of deepening cooperation in multiple areas.
In 2024, bilateral trade turnover between Turkmenistan and China reached $10.6 billion, with Turkmen natural gas exports via pipeline infrastructure continuing to account for the bulk of the trade.
