Hanoi, September 05, 2025 – The Europe Today: For the first time in history, nearly 30 million students and about 1.7 million teachers across Vietnam will simultaneously salute the national flag and sing the national anthem to inaugurate the 2025–2026 academic year on September 5.
The nationwide ceremony, organised by the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), coincides with the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s education sector. It will be held from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at the National Convention Centre in Hanoi, broadcast live on VTV1, and connected online to approximately 52,000 educational institutions nationwide.
The event will be attended by Party General Secretary Tô Lâm, State President Lương Cường, Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính, National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn, along with current and former Party and State leaders and former education ministers. Party General Secretary Tô Lâm is scheduled to deliver a keynote address, while senior leaders will present the First-class Labour Order to the MoET and strike the ceremonial drum to mark the beginning of the new school year.
This academic year carries particular significance as it marks the implementation of the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, the 2026–2030 five-year socio-economic development plan, and the Politburo’s resolution on breakthroughs in education and training. It also marks the first year under the new Law on Teachers and the launch of National Assembly policies on tuition waivers, school meal programmes, and expanded school infrastructure in border areas.
National targets for the year include achieving 35 percent enrollment of children under three in nursery schools, 94 percent preschool enrollment, 99.7 percent first-grade entry among six-year-olds, and 99.5 percent completion of primary education.
In a message to the education sector, President Lương Cường emphasised that the 2025–2026 school year begins in a new context of administrative consolidation and reforms under Politburo Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW. He urged the sector to embrace the theme of the year, “Discipline – Creativity – Breakthrough – Development”, focusing on nurturing knowledge, ethics, skills, character, and aspirations among students.
The President called on students to study diligently and cultivate ambition for national prosperity, on teachers to demonstrate dedication and innovation, on parents to accompany schools in shaping future generations, and on authorities to enhance support for education through effective policies.
