Hanoi, September 8, 2025 – The Europe Today: Party General Secretary Tô Lâm on Sunday urged Vietnam Television (VTV) to accelerate comprehensive digital transformation and develop a modern multi-platform media ecosystem, with the goal of becoming a national digital media hub and one of the region’s leading broadcasters.
He made the remarks at a ceremony marking three major milestones: the 55th anniversary of VTV’s first broadcast (7 September 1970 – 7 September 2025), the official launch of the national external television channel Vietnam Today, and the presentation of the First-class Labour Order to VTV.
General Secretary Lâm praised VTV’s 55-year journey, during which it has grown from modest technical beginnings into a national broadcaster and a leading multimedia institution. He highlighted its role as a central voice in communicating Party policies and State laws, contributing to education, cultural enrichment, public awareness, and the building and defense of the nation.
VTV, he said, has provided multi-dimensional coverage of political, economic, cultural, and social life, inspired innovation, exposed corruption and wastefulness, and played a vital role in public oversight and policy recommendation.
Amid the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and shifting global dynamics, the Party leader stressed that VTV must reaffirm its role as the country’s leading multimedia institution and a trusted voice of the Party, State and people. He called on VTV to lead in defending the Party’s ideological foundation, spreading positive information, and fostering public trust and national aspirations.
He underscored the need to build a team of journalists and technical staff with strong political integrity, professional competence, technological expertise, and ethical standards. VTV, he added, must enhance content quality, reflect social realities with honesty, and promote Vietnamese cultural identity and positive values to help shape a humane, knowledge-based society.
The broadcaster should also play a key role in fostering core values of patriotism, compassion, integrity, solidarity, and creativity as pillars of sustainable national development. To achieve this, he urged VTV to operate under a fully digitalized, integrated model, producing high-quality multi-platform and multilingual content, and applying advanced technologies to serve audiences both domestically and internationally.
Particular attention, he noted, should be given to developing Vietnam Today into a professional and engaging external channel with a distinct identity that represents Vietnamese culture on the global stage. Broadcasting 24/7 in English with multilingual subtitles adapted to regional audiences, the channel is expected to enhance Vietnam’s presence on the international media map and safeguard national information sovereignty.
Concluding his remarks, General Secretary Lâm stressed that VTV must advance boldly and sustainably, driven by innovation and digital transformation. At the event, he personally presented the First-class Labour Order to VTV in recognition of its achievements.
