Bukhara, September 8, 2025 – The Europe Today: The historic city of Bukhara has inaugurated the first International Biennale of Contemporary Art, titled “Recipes for Broken Hearts.” The grand opening marked a milestone in the cultural life of Uzbekistan, bringing together international and local artists, curators, and cultural figures.
A highlight of the biennale was the presentation of the AlMusalla project – a dedicated space for prayer and reflection, first unveiled at the Islamic Arts Biennale in Jeddah. This installation, now introduced in Bukhara, symbolizes the dialogue between tradition and modernity.
Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva, who attended the opening, underscored the importance of the project for the city.
“One of the most fascinating locations of the Bukhara Biennale is the AlMusalla project. Situated next to the Kalon Mosque – the spiritual center of Bukhara – it becomes a modern place of silence and contemplation, connecting history with the present,” Mirziyoyeva stated.
She further noted that, with the support of the Diriyah Biennale Foundation and the collaboration of organizers, Uzbekistan has become the first country to host the installation as part of its cultural heritage, with Bukhara serving as its new embodiment.
The biennale, through its diverse exhibitions and art projects, aims to strengthen cultural exchange and highlight the universal values of peace, reflection, and creativity.
