Baku, September 9, 2025 – The Europe Today: Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has described the Washington agreements as one of the most significant political and diplomatic achievements secured by Azerbaijan in recent years, underscoring their symbolic and strategic importance for the country and the wider South Caucasus region.
Addressing a special meeting of the Milli Majlis on the theme “The Washington Agreements: A Triumph of Peace Diplomacy and Wise Leadership”, held within the framework of the Year of Constitution and Sovereignty, Gafarova highlighted that the initialing of a peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia—witnessed by U.S. President Donald Trump—creates momentum for the establishment of a lasting peace agenda in the region.
She further noted that the implementation of the Zangezur Corridor project, initiated by President Ilham Aliyev, plays a key role in fostering regional cooperation and strengthening Azerbaijan’s geopolitical position.
According to the Speaker, President Aliyev’s visit to Washington marked the beginning of a new stage in Azerbaijan-U.S. relations. The agreements reached during this visit, she emphasized, not only safeguard Azerbaijan’s national interests but also reinforce regional peace and stability.
“The Washington agreements are a pivotal milestone in ensuring regional stability and security, and they have the backing of the international community,” Gafarova concluded.
