Jakarta, September 10, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesia and New Zealand have agreed to enhance cooperation in combating narcotics-related crimes, following a meeting between the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and New Zealand Ambassador to Indonesia Phillip Taula in Jakarta on Monday, the BNN announced in a statement on Tuesday.
BNN head Suyudi Ario Seto highlighted that the two countries have a history of collaboration, including the training of BNN officers at New Zealand’s Police Dog Training School in 2017.
“I hope cooperation between BNN and the New Zealand government will continue to improve, particularly in drug enforcement through training and information exchange,” Seto said. He underlined the agency’s need for further capacity-building initiatives, especially in areas such as investigations, cryptocurrency, and the dark web.
Seto also expressed optimism that the latest meeting would pave the way for concrete programs to strengthen bilateral relations in the fight against narcotics.
Ambassador Taula, who was accompanied by New Zealand Police Liaison Officer to Indonesia Paul Borrell, congratulated Seto on his recent appointment as BNN chief in August. He reaffirmed New Zealand’s commitment to broadening cooperation with Indonesia, particularly in strengthening drug enforcement efforts.
The meeting reflects both nations’ shared determination to bolster collaboration in addressing the evolving challenges of transnational narcotics crimes.
