Washington, September 12, 2025 — The Europe Today: Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that conservative activist Charlie Kirk will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously, media outlets reported.
Trump made the remarks during a speech at the Pentagon marking the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, where he paid tribute to Kirk, who was recently killed in a shooting. He described Kirk’s death as a “heinous assassination.”
“Charlie was a giant of his generation, a champion of liberty and an inspiration to millions and millions of people,” Trump said. “Our prayers are with his wonderful wife Erica, and his beautiful children.”
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor in the United States, awarded to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the country, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.
