Jakarta, September 16, 2025 — The Europe Today: Indonesia has welcomed the adoption of the New York Declaration on the two-state solution by the United Nations General Assembly, underlining the importance of UN backing in broadening international recognition of Palestine.
“For Indonesia, global recognition is vital to give Palestine an equal footing in the peace process,” Indonesian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela said in a written statement on Monday.
He emphasized that Indonesia fully supports steps taken at the UN level to advance Palestinian recognition, including through the endorsement of the New York Declaration, which has received wide international support.
“Indonesia will consistently strengthen coordination with various countries and international organizations to mobilize support for the Palestinian cause and to push for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip,” he added.
Mulachela also recalled Indonesia’s joint stance with Islamic countries during the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) extraordinary summit in August, which firmly rejected Israeli Zionist plans to permanently occupy Palestinian territories and annex the Gaza Strip.
Reiterating Indonesia’s long-standing commitment to Palestine, he said Jakarta is prepared to increase humanitarian assistance for the people of Gaza, including facilitating the evacuation of injured victims for emergency medical treatment, if requested by the World Health Organization (WHO).
On September 12, the UN General Assembly approved a draft resolution endorsing the New York Declaration, aimed at implementing the two-state solution and establishing an independent Palestinian state. The resolution was backed by 142 countries, while 10— including Israel and the United States—voted against, and 12 abstained.
French President Emmanuel Macron, who co-sponsored the resolution alongside Saudi Arabia, hailed the outcome as historic, noting that the majority of UN member states had united in support.
The New York Declaration outlines a comprehensive roadmap for peace, including a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages and prisoner exchanges, and the full withdrawal of Zionist forces. It further envisions the unification of Gaza and the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority through a provisional administration.
Additionally, the declaration recommends the establishment of a UN Stabilization Mission to ensure civilian protection, strengthen Palestinian security institutions, and safeguard peace. It also calls for unfettered humanitarian access, the restoration of basic services, and increased funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
