Islamabad, September 18, 2025 — The Europe Today: The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Pakistan, in collaboration with the National University of Modern Languages (NUML), organized a seminar titled “Sovereignty and Constitution: Strengthening of the Statehood” at NUML, Islamabad. The event was dedicated to celebrating 2025 as the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty in Azerbaijan” and commemorating the country’s victory in the 2020 Patriotic War, restored independence, and complete sovereignty over its formerly occupied territories.
His Excellency Khazar Farhadov, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, graced the occasion as the keynote speaker. Distinguished legal experts and scholars including Advocate Ahmer Bilal Soofi, Founding Partner and Member of the ICC Court of Arbitration; Advocate Adil Aziz Qazi, Vice Chairman of Islamabad Bar Council; Barrister Zopash Khan, Co-Chair of The Society of Mediators; Advocate Fariha Tahir Hassan, Faculty Member at NUST Law School; and Mr. Khalid Taimur Akram, Executive Director of the Pakistan Research Center for a Community with Shared Future (PRCCSF), also addressed the gathering.
Speakers highlighted Azerbaijan’s constitutional foundations, resilience, and achievements in statehood. Advocate Ahmer Bilal Soofi praised Azerbaijan’s independence and emphasized the importance of constitutionalism and sovereignty in ensuring lasting peace and security. Advocate Adil Aziz Qazi reflected on lessons that Pakistan could draw from Azerbaijan’s determination and unity, while Mr. Khalid Taimur Akram lauded Azerbaijan’s post-war transformation, particularly the development of the Karabakh region as a symbol of recovery and national strength. Barrister Zopash Khan underscored the symbolic significance of 2025 as a year of sovereignty and resilience, while Advocate Fariha Tahir Hassan linked the concepts of constitution and sovereignty to Azerbaijan’s progress after the Patriotic War.
The seminar, attended by nearly 150 students, faculty members, and distinguished guests, underscored the enduring importance of sovereignty, constitutionalism, and statehood in reinforcing Azerbaijan’s national identity and independence.
In his concluding remarks, Ambassador Khazar Farhadov commended Pakistan for its consistent support and reaffirmed the deep-rooted brotherly relations between the two nations. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, where students engaged with the Ambassador and panelists on themes of sovereignty, international law, and regional cooperation.
The event reflected the shared values of Azerbaijan and Pakistan in upholding sovereignty, promoting constitutional principles, and fostering solidarity for peace and development.
