Islamabad, September 19, 2025 — The Europe Today: The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing bilateral relations through stronger institutional cooperation.
The commitment was made during a meeting between H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ethiopia to Pakistan, and H.E. Ambassador Hamid Asghar Khan, Additional Secretary (Africa) at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Both sides conducted a comprehensive review of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, covering peace and security, climate change, aviation, trade, investment, science and technology, culture, and tourism.
Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker expressed satisfaction with the growing partnership between the two countries, pledging continued efforts to enhance collaboration. He stressed the importance of strengthening institutional linkages to elevate relations to new heights. The Ambassador also briefed on the inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, emphasizing its foundation on equitable and reasonable utilization of water resources, and highlighted Ethiopia’s leadership role in regional integration and climate action.
Ambassador Hamid Asghar Khan commended Ethiopia’s contribution to regional integration, particularly its efforts in resource-sharing with neighboring countries. He underlined Pakistan’s commitment to advancing economic diplomacy under its “Look Africa” and “Engage Africa” policies.
He also informed the Ethiopian envoy about preparations for the upcoming 5th Pakistan-Africa Trade Development Conference & Single Country Exhibition (PATDC & SCE), to be held on October 16–18, 2025, in Addis Ababa.
