Prabowo Heads to New York for First UN General Assembly Address as Indonesia’s Leader

Jakarta, September 20, 2025 — The Europe Today: President Prabowo Subianto has departed for New York to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, marking his first major multilateral engagement since being elected head of state. Cabinet Secretary Lt. Col. Teddy Indra Wijaya described the visit as Indonesia’s return to the highest level of global diplomacy.

Prabowo is scheduled to deliver Indonesia’s address during the UN General Debate on September 23, speaking third after the Presidents of Brazil and the United States. Ahead of this, he will participate in a high-level conference on the two-state solution for Palestine and Israel on September 22.

Teddy emphasized that the president’s presence underscores Indonesia’s leadership role in the Global South and its consistent call for more inclusive and equitable reforms in global governance. “This is a significant moment for Indonesia’s voice to be heard at the highest international forum,” he noted.

During his journey, Prabowo made a brief stop in Osaka, Japan, to refuel and visited the Indonesia Pavilion for Expo 2025 Osaka. Following his engagements in New York, he will travel to Ottawa on September 24 to meet with the Canadian Prime Minister, before concluding his tour in The Hague on September 26 with meetings with the Dutch King and the Caretaker Prime Minister.

The overseas trip reflects Indonesia’s renewed diplomatic posture under Prabowo’s leadership, with a focus on strengthening partnerships and amplifying its voice on global issues.
