Indonesia

Jakarta, September 21, 2025 — The Europe Today: Indonesia celebrated the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations with France by participating in the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days), underscoring its commitment to cultural diplomacy and strengthening bilateral ties through art and heritage.

For the first time, the Indonesian Embassy in Paris opened its doors to the public during the event, which is part of a European tradition granting access to historic and cultural sites typically closed to visitors.

In a press release on Sunday, the embassy said Indonesia’s participation aimed to foster friendship and deepen relations with France through cultural exchanges and artistic showcases.

As part of the event, the embassy hosted a photo exhibition commemorating the historic moment when President Prabowo Subianto attended the French National Day celebrations on July 14, 2025, as guest of honor. The participation marked a milestone in Indonesia–France friendship and formed part of a broader series of events marking 75 years of diplomatic ties.

The Indonesian Embassy also highlighted the cultural wealth of Nusantara through exhibitions featuring the Borobudur Temple, Batik, kebaya, Indonesian coffee varieties, and creative works. The Borobudur display emphasized the grandeur of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, while the Batik exhibition showcased intricate motifs and traditions recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009.

Visitors had the opportunity to engage in interactive experiences, including a photo booth with traditional attire such as kebaya, and to savor Indonesia’s diverse coffee heritage, including varieties from Gayo, Mandailing, Toraja, Kintamani, and Java.

In addition, paintings by renowned Indonesian artists—Jeihan Sukmantoro, Mochtar Apin, Salim, I Nyoman Gunarsa, and Henk Ngantung—were on display, further introducing Indonesian creativity to the French public.

The embassy emphasized that Indonesia’s presence at Journées du Patrimoine reflects its dedication to promoting cultural understanding and reinforcing the foundation of long-standing Indonesia–France relations.
