Jakarta, September 22, 2025 — The Europe Today: United Nations (UN) Secretary General Antonio Guterres has described Indonesia as a special partner of the UN, according to Indonesia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Umar Hadi.
The remarks were conveyed when Hadi presented his letter of credentials to the UN chief at the Secretariat Building in New York on Friday (Sept 19). Speaking at a press briefing at Indonesia’s Permanent Mission to the UN on Saturday evening, Hadi said the UN continues to closely follow Indonesia’s active role in promoting reforms to the multilateral system.
“The UN sees Indonesia as one of the emerging nations that continues to contribute to world peace. Therefore, Indonesia is regarded as a privileged partner of the UN,” Hadi stated.
He further noted that the UN anticipates a greater role for Indonesia through President Prabowo Subianto’s participation at the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA). The president is scheduled to address the general debate on September 23, where he will highlight the need for reforms in the multilateral system.
President Prabowo is also expected to join the High-level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution on September 22. On the sidelines of this event, he will hold a bilateral meeting with Secretary General Guterres.
Earlier on Saturday afternoon, President Prabowo arrived in New York via John F. Kennedy International Airport at 4:50 p.m. local time. He was accompanied by his son Didit Hediprasetyo, Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
