New York, September 25, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan addressed the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, urging world leaders to strengthen international cooperation, uphold international law, and take collective action on pressing global challenges.

Opening his remarks, President Rahmon congratulated member states on the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter, emphasizing the organization’s central role in preserving peace and security amid growing instability worldwide.

Support for Developing and Vulnerable States
The Tajik leader underscored the difficulties faced by developing countries—particularly landlocked and mountainous nations—in accessing global financing and participating equitably in the international economy. He called for reforms of financial institutions and stronger support for sustainable development to ensure that “no country is left behind.”

Climate Change and Water Security
Highlighting Tajikistan’s vulnerability to climate change, President Rahmon warned of the rapid melting of glaciers and water resource challenges that threaten energy, agriculture, and food security. He noted that Tajikistan will host the next International Conference under the Dushanbe Water Process in 2026 to promote regional cooperation on water management and ecosystem protection.

Peace and Conflict Resolution
Rahmon appealed for diplomacy and peaceful resolution of conflicts worldwide, proposing a UN resolution on a “Decade of Peace for Future Generations.” On regional issues, he voiced support for stability and socio-economic development in Afghanistan, called for humanitarian aid to areas affected by drought and earthquakes, and urged an immediate halt to hostilities in Gaza. He stressed that a lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue requires adherence to UN resolutions and the two-state solution.

Digital Transformation and Rule of Law
The President also emphasized the opportunities and risks of digital transformation, including artificial intelligence, in advancing global development. He proposed declaring an International Year of Legal Literacy to promote fairness, transparency, and a culture of legality worldwide.

UN Reform and Multilateralism
Reiterating Tajikistan’s backing for UN reform, President Rahmon voiced support for initiatives such as UN80, UN 2.0, and the Pact for the Future. He concluded by affirming that trust, cooperation, and determined action remain essential to achieving a just, peaceful, and sustainable future for all.
