Ottawa, September 25, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Ottawa on Wednesday, commencing his first official visit to Canada, where he is scheduled to sign the Indonesia–Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (ICA CEPA). The trip follows his working visit to the United States and marks the beginning of a series of high-level engagements aimed at strengthening strategic relations between Southeast Asia’s largest economy and Canada.
Upon arrival at Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport, President Prabowo was greeted at the aircraft stairs by Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, and Canadian Ambassador to Indonesia, Jess Dutton. Indonesia’s Ambassador to Canada, Muhsin Syihab, and Defense Attaché, Air Commodore Edwardus Wisoko Aribowo, were also present.
From the airport, the Indonesian delegation proceeded directly to their hotel. President Prabowo’s official program in Ottawa includes a bilateral meeting with Governor General Mary Simon at Rideau Hall and a tête-à-tête with Prime Minister Mark Carney at the West Block of Parliament.
The highlight of the visit will be the signing of the ICA CEPA, Indonesia’s first free trade agreement with a North American partner. Officials from both countries said the agreement is expected to expand opportunities in trade, investment, and strategic cooperation across a wide range of sectors.
President Prabowo departed earlier in the day from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, accompanied by Minister of Investment and Downstream Development Rosan Perkasa Roeslani and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
