Putrajaya, September 25, 2025 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday received a courtesy call from United States Trade Representative (USTR) Jamieson Greer, accompanied by an American delegation and US Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard Kagan, at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Photographs shared by the Prime Minister’s Office showed the meeting, during which both sides exchanged views on strengthening strategic relations between Malaysia, the United States, and ASEAN, with a particular focus on trade cooperation.
In a statement, Prime Minister Anwar underscored the importance of ongoing negotiations on a reciprocal tariff agreement, highlighting that its conclusion would provide clear policy direction for the business communities of both countries.
“Malaysia, as a trading nation with an open economy, has always maintained good relationships with all trading partners, enabling domestic economic growth,” Anwar said.
Following the 30-minute meeting, Greer proceeded to the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Hartamas, where the ASEAN Economic Ministers (AEM) meeting is being held.
Earlier, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz confirmed that Malaysia would also hold discussions with Greer later in the day. Greer, who attended the AEM meeting on Wednesday, said the United States is seeking more balanced and reciprocal trade with Southeast Asian nations and noted that Washington expects to finalise agreements with certain ASEAN countries in the coming weeks.
