New York, September 25, 2025 – The Europe Today:  President of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80), Annalena Baerbock, has commended Việt Nam’s active role, rising stature, and increasing contributions across UN bodies and forums, including the General Assembly, particularly at a time of global challenges facing both the world and the United Nations.

Baerbock made the remarks during a meeting on Wednesday (New York time) with Vietnamese President Lương Cường, who is in New York to attend the High-Level General Debate of UNGA 80 and hold bilateral meetings.

The UNGA President extended warm congratulations to Việt Nam on the 80th anniversary of its National Day, coinciding with the UN’s 80th anniversary, and on the country’s upcoming role as host of the signing ceremony of the UN Convention against Cybercrime in October, as well as its chairmanship of the 2026 Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). She also praised President Cường’s address at the UNGA, noting Việt Nam’s strong support for the UN and this year’s theme, “Better together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights.”

Highlighting Việt Nam’s initiative for the International Day of Epidemic Preparedness, adopted by the UN in 2020, Baerbock expressed hope for the country’s continued engagement in preparations for the second High-level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response in 2026.

For his part, President Cường reaffirmed Việt Nam’s consistent foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralisation, and diversification of external relations. He underlined the country’s commitment to multilateralism, an international order based on international law, and active participation as a responsible member of the international community.

He voiced strong support for the UN’s central role in global governance, stressing the importance of political will, international solidarity, and upholding international law amid a complex global environment. President Cường also shared Việt Nam’s preparations for hosting the cybercrime convention signing in Hà Nội next month, its assumption of the NPT Review Conference chairmanship, and its candidacies for other key UN bodies, calling for Baerbock’s support.

Both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation to advance shared priorities between Việt Nam and the UN in the coming period.
