Kuala Lumpur, September 26, 2025 – The Europe Today: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced on Thursday that the Malaysian government has approved the installation of advanced closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems at all detention centres operated by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) nationwide.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Special Cabinet Committee on National Governance (JKKTN), which Prime Minister Anwar chaired. In a Facebook post, he stated that this initiative is part of the government’s efforts to enhance the efficiency of enforcement agencies in safeguarding the security of detainees. He described the move as a strategic step in line with the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS), aimed at addressing current challenges faced by enforcement agencies, enhancing security measures, and improving monitoring at detention facilities.
Prime Minister Anwar also expressed the government’s strong concern over the repeated incidents of foreign fishing boats trespassing into Malaysia’s waters. These incursions not only violate the country’s maritime sovereignty but also result in significant losses of marine resources, negatively impacting the local fishing community and the national economy. He added that the government is committed to protecting national sovereignty and will address issues related to the country’s waters through strategic cooperation with the countries involved.
The policy and legal reforms agreed upon during the meeting reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring that public services remain responsive to national security needs, while upholding the principles of efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness in public sector governance.
