Tokayev

Astana, October 1, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated participants of the VII International Transport and Logistics Business Forum “New Silk Way” on the opening of the event, underscoring its special importance for Kazakhstan’s economic future, Akorda’s press service reported on Tuesday.

“Today marks the official launch of the second line of the Dostyk-Moiynty railway, an exceptionally important infrastructure project. Undoubtedly, it will enhance the efficiency and capacity of Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics system. Thirty-five years ago, the Dostyk-Alashankou project was launched. The connection of Kazakhstan’s and China’s railroads is a landmark event for our country,” President Tokayev stated.

The Head of State expressed gratitude to the veterans who contributed to the construction of Kazakhstan’s key railway projects and reiterated that the transport and logistics sector, as highlighted in his recent state-of-the-nation address, remains a driving force of the national economy and a cornerstone of international connectivity.

“Kazakh land has always served as a golden bridge between China and Europe. China is our eternal close neighbor and reliable ally. Relations between our nations are based on strong friendship and mutual trust. We consistently support each other and share a common vision of the future,” Tokayev said.

He emphasized Kazakhstan’s strong support for the One Belt, One Road initiative, recalling that Chinese President Xi Jinping first announced the project in Kazakhstan in 2013. “We comprehensively support this project and actively participate in its implementation, as it fully aligns with the interests of our country,” the President added.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the Dostyk-Moiynty project represents a key pillar of Kazakhstan’s transport and logistics development strategy. The initiative incorporates advanced technologies under the Smart Railway concept, including artificial intelligence for train traffic management and scheduling, sensor- and drone-based infrastructure monitoring, predictive maintenance, energy efficiency improvements, CO₂ emissions reduction, and automated logistics and container transportation.

The modernization is also designed to boost transit capacity along the China-Europe corridor, ensuring safer and more efficient operations while enabling Kazakhstan to play a pivotal role in global transport flows.

The construction of the second line of the Dostyk-Moiynty railway, officials noted, is one of the country’s most significant infrastructure undertakings, expected to create new opportunities for Kazakhstan’s export potential and enhance its role as a vital transit hub linking Asia and Europe.
