Bucharest, October 2, 2025 – The Europe Today: Romania’s business-to-customer (B2C) e-commerce sector is projected to grow by 10 percent year-on-year in 2025, expanding its share to 3.5 % of GDP, according to a recent report. The forecasted total B2C volume will amount to €12.8 billion, positioning Romania among Europe’s more dynamic e-commerce markets.
This projection places Romania at 9th in Europe overall, and 3rd in Central and Eastern Europe, trailing only Poland and the Czech Republic in relative e-commerce scale.
The anticipated rise underscores the accelerating digital adoption among consumers, the expansion of online retail infrastructure, and increased investment in logistics and payment ecosystems. Market analysts point to factors such as greater smartphone penetration, improved internet connectivity, and consumer familiarity with digital shopping as key drivers behind the surge.
However, challenges remain. The growth trajectory depends on addressing regulatory bottlenecks, strengthening cybersecurity, and ensuring robust digital payments and delivery systems across urban and rural areas alike.
As Romania continues to evolve its digital economy, stakeholders — from e-commerce platforms and logistics firms to regulators and financial institutions — will play a critical role in sustaining momentum and capturing the sector’s full potential.
