Islamabad, October 6, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have agreed to enhance cooperation in defence and aviation, aimed at further strengthening their bilateral relations.
The agreement emerged during a meeting on Monday between H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of Ethiopia to Pakistan, and H.E. Khawaja Asif, Federal Minister of Defence for Pakistan.
During the discussion, both sides explored growing bilateral and multilateral cooperation in diverse areas, including peace and security, defence, aviation, climate change, trade and investment, culture, and tourism.
The Ethiopian Ambassador briefed the Federal Minister on the recent inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), highlighting its foundation on the principle of equitable and reasonable utilization of water. He emphasized that the project fosters regional integration while avoiding significant harm to neighboring countries.
In addition, the Ambassador underscored Ethiopia’s significant advancements in the aviation sector and expressed interest in expanding flight routes to Pakistan, beyond the current Karachi service.
The Federal Minister lauded the visionary leadership of Ethiopia, praising the transformative initiatives undertaken by Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali in advancing socio-economic development and prosperity. He also recognized Ethiopia’s key role in promoting peace, security, and stability in the Horn of Africa, reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering support for these efforts.
