Pakistan

Islamabad, October 7, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation aimed at developing skilled human resources to support the socio-economic progress of both nations.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between H.E. Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula, Special Envoy and Ambassador Extraordinary of the FDRE to Pakistan, and H.E. Salik Hussain, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development.

During the meeting, Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker briefed the Federal Minister on Ethiopia’s homegrown economic reform agenda, which seeks to promote macroeconomic stability, attract private sector investment, boost domestic production, and enhance the government’s capacity to deliver quality public services.

He highlighted that Ethiopia is focusing on modern skill development among its youth in fields such as coding, artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, and computing to improve productivity and competitiveness. The Ambassador proposed joint initiatives between Ethiopia and Pakistan to upskill young professionals in both countries.

Dr. Jemal also underscored the significant contribution of the Ethiopian diaspora to the country’s economic growth, particularly through the government’s “Back to Origins” initiative. The program encourages second-generation Ethiopians living abroad to reconnect with their cultural heritage and actively contribute to national development.

Federal Minister Salik Hussain reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Ethiopia, emphasizing the importance of bilateral collaboration in skill enhancement and workforce development. He praised the visionary leadership of Ethiopian Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Abiy Ahmed, which he said is transforming the nation’s economic landscape.

The Minister commended Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula for his dynamic efforts in strengthening Ethio-Pakistan relations and laying a firm foundation for long-term cooperation between the two friendly countries.
