Moscow, October 17, 2025 – The Europe Today: Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has lauded Morocco’s constructive and balanced approach in supporting international efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita on Thursday in Moscow, Lavrov said, “We discussed in detail the situation surrounding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Morocco traditionally plays a very important role in supporting efforts for the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue.”
Lavrov welcomed the recently reached ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, describing it as a “positive step” toward easing tensions. “We hope that the agreements reached will be strictly implemented, including in light of the outcomes of the October 13 Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit,” he said.
The Russian top diplomat also emphasized Moscow’s support for ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza and for initiating large-scale reconstruction efforts to rebuild the territory’s war-torn infrastructure.
“These are serious issues that must be addressed without undermining the full implementation of UN resolutions on the establishment of a Palestinian state,” Lavrov noted, underscoring Russia’s consistent support for a two-state solution.
For his part, Foreign Minister Bourita reaffirmed Morocco’s satisfaction with the ceasefire agreement reached between Hamas and Israel, describing it as “an encouraging development that must open the way to renewed dialogue and political engagement.”
“We agreed on the importance of all parties respecting the terms of the agreement and creating a political horizon for a fair and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue,” Bourita said.
The Moroccan foreign minister reiterated his country’s unwavering support for a two-state solution as the only viable framework for achieving just and lasting peace. “Morocco continues to advocate for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital,” he stressed.
The meeting between the two foreign ministers, which also covered broader regional and bilateral issues, reaffirmed the shared positions of Morocco and Russia on the need to uphold international law, strengthen multilateral diplomacy, and promote stability and peace in the Middle East.
