Romanian FM Urges Strong EU Support for Cohesion, Agriculture, and Strategic Industries in 2028–2035 Budget

Luxembourg, October 22, 2025 — The Europe Today: Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu on Tuesday voiced Romania’s position on the European Union’s future budget for 2028–2035 during the debate at the General Affairs Council in Luxembourg.

Țoiu emphasized the importance of continuing adequate financing for the Cohesion Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy, noting that these financial instruments have played a vital role in supporting Romanian communities and farmers.

Addressing the EU’s new priorities, she welcomed the European Commission’s budget proposal for Security and Competitiveness and highlighted the significance of funding dual-use projects—both civil and military—including infrastructure and military mobility. “Mobility projects present an opportunity to advance strategic initiatives that have been delayed for decades,” she stated.

On the proposed Competitiveness Fund, Țoiu called for simplified access to resources for all member states and companies, regardless of size. She underscored that funding should not be based solely on excellence and innovation but also support traditional industries such as automotive, chemical, and metallurgical sectors, which are essential for Romania’s economy and the strategic objectives of the Union.
