Rabat, October 24, 2025 — The Europe Today: FIFA has officially announced that Morocco will host the FIFA Unites: Women’s Series 2025, a global series of friendly women’s football matches set to commence on October 26, 2025.
Originally planned to take place in Dubai, the tournament was relocated to Morocco due to visa challenges faced by several Afghan players, which would have hindered their participation in the United Arab Emirates. FIFA confirmed that the decision was made to ensure that all participating teams could compete safely and inclusively, emphasizing Morocco’s proven capacity to host major international sporting events thanks to its modern infrastructure and logistical capabilities.
A highlight of the tournament will be the debut of Afghan Women United, a newly formed team comprising Afghan players who left their homeland in 2021 after the Taliban imposed a ban on women’s sports, including football. This initiative forms part of FIFA’s Action Plan for Afghan Women’s Football, which aims to provide opportunities for Afghan women players to continue their athletic pursuits and inspire others around the world.
The players themselves chose the name Afghan Women United, symbolizing resilience, unity, and the spirit of inclusion. Although the team cannot officially represent Afghanistan under FIFA regulations, its participation sends a powerful message about courage, equality, and hope for women in sport.
In addition to Afghan Women United, the tournament will feature women’s teams from Chad and Libya, both of which will make their debut appearances in FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking matches — marking a historic milestone for women’s football in both nations.
Through the FIFA Unites: Women’s Series 2025, FIFA seeks to highlight football’s power to promote unity, empowerment, and inclusion. The event represents more than a competition; it is a celebration of perseverance and the growing visibility of women’s football globally.
FIFA stated that the detailed schedule and venue information will be announced soon, with all matches available for viewing across FIFA’s digital platforms.
