Rome, October 25, 2025 — The Europe Today: As announced earlier, the official visit of the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, to the Italian Republic began on October 24, 2025.
Upon arrival at Leonardo da Vinci – Fiumicino Airport in Rome, President Berdimuhamedov was warmly received by officials of the Italian Republic along with members of the Turkmen delegation. A guard of honor lined the carpeted pathway from the aircraft, and, following established diplomatic tradition, the President was presented with a bouquet of flowers.
President Berdimuhamedov then proceeded to the Altare della Patria (Altar of the Fatherland) memorial complex, where he was greeted by Italian Minister of Defense Guido Crosetto and other officials. The ceremony commenced with the performance of the national anthems of Turkmenistan and Italy. Following the protocol, the President paid tribute to the Italian national flag and laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He was also introduced to members of Italy’s high-level military delegation, reaffirming the respect and friendship between the two nations.
Later the same day, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella at the Quirinale Palace. The meeting began with an official welcoming ceremony on the palace square, where the national anthems were performed, and the Guard of Honor was inspected. Both Presidents paid tribute to the Italian national flag before entering the palace and engaging in reciprocal introductions with members of the official delegations, followed by a photo session.
Bilateral talks were subsequently held, during which President Mattarella expressed Italy’s appreciation for constructive cooperation with Turkmenistan based on mutual respect. President Berdimuhamedov conveyed gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to him and highlighted the importance of the meeting in strengthening the bilateral partnership. He also conveyed the greetings of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, noting the positive memories of previous visits and meetings with President Mattarella.
During discussions, both Presidents emphasized the close collaboration between Turkmenistan and Italy in the international arena, commitment to peace, dialogue, and sustainable development, and mutual support for Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, recognized three times by UN General Assembly resolutions. President Berdimuhamedov also highlighted the significance of the first Central Asia–Italy Summit held earlier this year and invited President Mattarella to the International Forum in Ashgabat on December 12, commemorating Turkmenistan’s 30th anniversary of permanent neutrality.
The meeting concluded with both leaders reaffirming their commitment to advancing mutually beneficial cooperation across diverse sectors and exchanging best wishes for the peoples of Turkmenistan and Italy.
