Azerbaijan’s Kenan Heybatov Crowned U23 World Champion in Serbia

BakuOctober 27, 2025 – The Europe Today: The U23 World Wrestling Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia, are nearing their conclusion, with Azerbaijan’s freestyle wrestlers delivering outstanding performances.

According to AZERTAC, two members of the Azerbaijani national freestyle wrestling team reached the finals of their respective weight categories.

In the 70 kg division, Kenan Heybatov claimed the gold medal, defeating Iran’s Sina Khalili in a hard-fought final. Despite trailing in the first half, Heybatov showed remarkable determination to secure a 9–4 victory, earning his first-ever U23 world champion title.

Meanwhile, Khetag Karsanov, competing in the 125 kg category, faced Iran’s Abolfazl Nejad in the final. Competing in the heavyweight division for the first time this year, Karsanov was defeated 0–11, taking home the silver medal.

The results mark another strong showing for Azerbaijan’s young wrestlers on the world stage, underscoring the nation’s continued excellence in the sport of wrestling.
