Romania and UK Reaffirm Strong Strategic Partnership in Bucharest Talks

BucharestOctober 30, 2025 – The Europe Today: Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs held discussions today at the Ministry’s headquarters with Stephen Doughty, the UK Minister of State for Europe, North America, and the Overseas Territories. The meeting reaffirmed the strong and enduring strategic partnership between Romania and the United Kingdom, with an emphasis on shared commitments to regional and Euro-Atlantic security.

During the talks, both officials highlighted their common vision for peace and stability, underscoring the UK’s significant contribution to NATO missions conducted on Romanian territory as a tangible expression of this partnership.

The two sides also addressed economic cooperation, noting that bilateral trade reached €10 billion by the end of last year, while recognizing that the potential for further growth remains substantial. They discussed expanding collaboration in key sectors such as green energy, technology, and retail, and expressed mutual interest in facilitating greater business diversification and investment. The Romanian side also emphasized its commitment to supporting business communities and entrepreneurs from both countries, including Romanian companies seeking to establish a presence in the UK market.

Another key topic of discussion was the Romanian community in the United Kingdom, comprising over 1.3 million citizens living, working, and studying there. The Romanian Foreign Minister stressed that ensuring the well-being and protection of the rights of this community remains a top priority in the bilateral dialogue.

Minister Doughty’s visit to Bucharest marks the first strategic dialogue since the renewal of the Joint Declaration on the Romania–UK Strategic Partnership, signed last year in London. The meeting underscored the deep and dynamic ties between the two nations and their continued cooperation on shared regional and global priorities.
