JakartaNovember 08, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesia and Russia have agreed to expand cooperation in the maritime, logistics, and education sectors following a high-level meeting between Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and Russian Maritime Council Chairman Nikolai Patrushev, who also serves as Advisor to the Russian President.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Minister Hartarto said the meeting focused on strengthening strategic partnerships to enhance Indonesia’s maritime capabilities and infrastructure development.

“The development of the maritime and logistics sector is a national priority to drive economic growth and enhance interregional connectivity,” Hartarto stated, emphasizing that Indonesia continues to advance infrastructure projects, expand industrial capacity, and open avenues for global collaboration to achieve maritime independence and competitiveness.

Patrushev expressed Russia’s readiness to cooperate in the development of maritime logistics infrastructure, shipping technology transfer, and capacity-building in marine engineering. He also outlined Moscow’s interest in establishing educational partnerships with Indonesian maritime institutions, including specialized training programs at leading universities in St. Petersburg.

According to Patrushev, the Russian government seeks to strengthen cooperation in maritime education and technology to support Indonesia’s skilled workforce development and to enhance international maritime connectivity through improved shipping routes and port facilities.

Minister Hartarto praised Russia’s expertise in science and technology, underlining the importance of academic collaboration between Indonesian and Russian engineering universities. “This aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita program, which prioritizes improving human resource quality and access to advanced education,” he said.

He added that Indonesia will follow up on the proposals discussed during the meeting and present the outcomes to President Prabowo to further advance the bilateral strategic partnership.
