JakartaNovember 08, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) has been elected as a member of the United Nations Board of Auditors (UN BoA), marking a significant achievement in Indonesia’s ongoing efforts to promote accountability and good governance at the international level, BPK Vice Chairman Budi Prijono announced.

Prijono, who led the Indonesian delegation at the main session of the UN General Assembly’s Fifth Committee — which oversees administrative and budgetary affairs — in New York on Friday, said the election reflected global recognition of Indonesia’s professionalism, integrity, and auditing competence.

“This achievement proves that BPK plays an active role in promoting good governance practices at the global level. Indonesia has demonstrated itself as a competent, trustworthy, and genuinely contributing partner,” Prijono said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Saturday.

Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir, who also attended the election, said BPK’s appointment aligned with Indonesia’s commitment — shared by many member states — to advancing governance reform within the United Nations.

“This membership comes at a crucial time amid ongoing UN reforms. As a member of the UN Board of Auditors, BPK is expected to help strengthen global governance, particularly in financial and managerial oversight within the UN,” Nasir stated.

BPK was elected to replace China’s National Audit Office, which previously represented the Asia-Pacific region on the UN BoA.

During its six-year term (2026–2032), BPK will serve alongside France’s Cour des Comptes and Brazil’s Tribunal de Contas da União to conduct external audits of UN agencies, ensuring the organization’s resources are managed with transparency, efficiency, and accountability.

In its official statement, BPK reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening accountability, transparency, and good governance within the UN through independent, professional, and innovative auditing practices.

This election adds to a series of international recognitions for Indonesia’s supreme audit institution. Earlier this year, BPK was also elected as Chair of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) for the 2028–2031 term and is set to host the 26th International Congress of Supreme Audit Institutions (INCOSAI) in 2028.

Indonesia’s candidacy for the UN Board of Auditors was first announced in 2021, with its successful election the result of intensive diplomatic efforts led by BPK and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, conducted bilaterally and through various international forums. The unanimous support from UN member states reflects broad confidence in Indonesia’s capacity to contribute effectively to global financial oversight and reform within the United Nations system.
