Jakarta, November 12, 2025 – The Europe Today: Deputy Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to playing a greater role in global peace efforts, while addressing the opening session of the 9th World Peace Forum in Jakarta on Monday (November 10).
In a statement released on Tuesday, Yudhoyono expressed confidence in Indonesia’s ability to contribute to international peacebuilding, citing the country’s long-standing experience in maintaining harmony among its diverse and multicultural population spread across thousands of islands.
“Indonesia is home to over 1,300 ethnic groups with hundreds of local languages. Despite this diversity, we have stood solid as a single nation under the motto Unity in Diversity,” he said. “We are committed to bridging differences to promote peace and humanity.”
Yudhoyono — the second son of former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono — underscored Indonesia’s consistent adherence to its independent and active foreign policy, which focuses on fostering partnerships and avoiding conflict in international relations.
He called for enhanced global dialogue to encourage the exchange of ideas and best practices in addressing shared global challenges such as disinformation, humanitarian crises, climate change, and social injustice.
The MPR deputy speaker also emphasized the importance of upholding noble values that underpin a harmonious, responsible, and peaceful international community. He highlighted Indonesia’s foundational ideology, Pancasila, as well as the principles of religious moderation and the cultural values deeply rooted in Eastern civilizations.
Yudhoyono encouraged participants to maximize the World Peace Forum as a platform for strengthening global collaboration toward building a more peaceful, just, and prosperous world.
“Let us build a world rooted in trust, justice, and harmony. Indonesia is ready to bridge civilizations and become a partner for world peace,” he stated.
The 9th World Peace Forum, held at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta, brought together representatives from various countries and international organizations. Running until Tuesday, the event carried the theme “Considering Wasatiyyat and Tionghoa for Global Collaboration,” highlighting moderation and cross-cultural understanding as foundations for global cooperation.
