Romania Ensures Airspace Security Amid Russian Drone Strikes in Ukraine

Romania

BucharestNovember 25, 2025 – The Europe Today: The Russian Federation resumed drone attacks on civilian areas and port infrastructure in Ukraine during the night of November 23–24, in the vicinity of the border with Romania.

Romanian radar monitoring systems detected multiple air targets approaching Ismail. In response, two German Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft conducting enhanced Air Policing Missions were scrambled to monitor the situation. The drones subsequently disappeared from radar, shortly after explosions were reported in Ismail. No incursions into Romanian airspace were recorded, and the Typhoon jets returned to the 57th Air Base at 01:01.

Later, at 01:45, air targets were detected approximately 30 kilometers north of Snake Island, with potential movements toward Vâlcov, Chilia, or Ismail. In response, the Romanian Air Force deployed two F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft. At 02:20, authorities issued a RO-Alert message to residents in northern Tulcea County.

During the mission, the F-16 aircraft monitored the air targets at varying distances from Ismail and confirmed explosions on Ukrainian territory. No drone incursions into Romanian airspace were detected. The F-16s returned safely to the 86th Air Base at 03:51.

The Ministry of National Defence affirmed that it maintains continuous contact with allies and continues to take measures to guarantee the security of Romania and NATO’s Eastern Flank.
