Astana, November 29, 2025 – The Europe Today: Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Friday met with FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich to discuss ongoing cooperation and the development of chess in Kazakhstan, Akorda reported.
During the meeting, President Tokayev praised the support provided by FIDE to the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, as well as to local trainers and young athletes. He emphasized that chess is not only a competitive sport but also an important part of the country’s intellectual culture, character-building, and educational development.
Tokayev noted the rising popularity of chess among children and youth across Kazakhstan and highlighted the government’s focus on enhancing chess infrastructure and integrating the game more deeply into the national education system. The two sides discussed the need for continued collaboration between the national federation and FIDE, particularly in hosting major international tournaments and implementing joint development initiatives.
FIDE President Dvorkovich outlined the key components of the Comprehensive Chess Development Plan for Kazakhstan, designed to strengthen cooperation among the state, private sector, and the national federation. He noted that Kazakh chess players achieved remarkable success last year, securing the highest number of medals in FIDE competitions.
In recognition of his significant contribution to the promotion and development of chess in Kazakhstan, President Tokayev awarded Arkady Dvorkovich the Order of Dostyq (Friendship), 2nd Class.
