Indonesia to Hold First National Human Rights Development Conference in December

Indonesia

Jakarta, December 3, 2025 – The Europe Today: Indonesia’s Ministry of Human Rights is preparing a comprehensive framework for national human rights development ahead of the National Human Rights (HAM) Development Planning Conference, scheduled to take place from December 8–10.

Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai stated on Tuesday that the upcoming conference will be the first of its kind in Indonesia, marking a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to advance and institutionalize human rights as a vital intangible asset.

“Until now, there have been national development deliberations. Now, there is also the National Human Rights Conference, officially conducted by the government. This is one of the most important historical milestones,” Pigai said.

He explained that the National HAM Conference forms part of Indonesia’s national strategic plan and reflects President Prabowo Subianto’s directive, which places human rights at the top of national priorities. The initiative also aligns with the Prabowo-Gibran administration’s first AstaCita mission: strengthening the foundations of the Pancasila ideology, democracy, and human rights.

The forum aims to formulate strategic steps for human rights development at the national level, integrate human rights into national development planning, and support Indonesia’s long-term vision of becoming a leading nation by 2045.

“Human rights are among the most valuable intangible assets in the world, residing in everyone’s mind. They will be formulated into technical and strategic steps, as well as technocratic policies in national development for the future,” Pigai noted.

The conference is expected to be inaugurated by the Head of the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), Rachmat Pambudy, and attended by representatives from ministries, government agencies, and regional administrations.

Pigai added that preparatory meetings with Bappenas leadership had been completed, with full support expressed for the initiative. “The event will feature ministries and agencies as resource persons in the context of national human rights development, including leaders from the police, the military, and the Home Ministry,” he said.
