Istanbul, December 9, 2025 – The Europe Today: Türkiye and Hungary on Monday signed a series of agreements spanning aviation, security, technology, culture, and education, as the two countries’ leaders pledged to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Istanbul following the seventh meeting of the Türkiye–Hungary High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that Ankara and Budapest are close to achieving their $6 billion trade volume target. He noted that discussions were underway to raise the target to $10 billion.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban traveled to Türkiye to take part in the council meeting, which coincides with intensified cooperation marking 2025 as the Türkiye–Hungary Year of Science and Innovation. President Erdogan said that both sides have implemented 28 joint actions and allocated resources to several joint projects under this framework.
Erdogan announced that the two countries agreed to establish a joint planning group chaired by their respective foreign ministries to address bilateral and global issues in a more structured and institutional manner.
Highlighting evolving security dynamics in Europe, Erdogan said the two sides are evaluating new defense industry cooperation projects, including those involving joint production. Regional and global developments — particularly the Middle East and the Russia–Ukraine war — were also reviewed during the talks.
The Turkish president commended Hungary’s contributions to the Organization of Turkic States, where it holds observer status, and expressed confidence that Budapest would maintain its strong support for Türkiye’s strategic goal of full EU membership.
Reaffirming Türkiye’s diplomatic efforts concerning the Russia–Ukraine conflict, Erdogan said Ankara remains committed to using all channels to help achieve a “just and lasting peace,” reiterating that “there are no winners in war and no losers in a just peace.”
Following the leaders’ meeting, the two sides signed 16 agreements across various sectors, further broadening the scope of their cooperation.
President Erdogan later hosted a dinner in honor of Prime Minister Orban, underscoring the deep-rooted ties and growing partnership between Türkiye and Hungary.
