Padang, December 18, 2025 – The Europe Today: President Prabowo Subianto on Thursday morning embarked on an inspection tour of three districts in West Sumatra, assessing post-disaster recovery efforts following severe floods and landslides that affected the province, one of three in northern Sumatra impacted by the disasters.
The president departed from Sutan Sjahrir Airfield in Padang at 8:23 a.m. local time aboard the Indonesian Air Force’s EC-725 Caracal helicopter, as observed by ANTARA.
His first stop was Agam District, where he visited a primary school in Kayu Pasak, Palembayan sub-district, which is currently serving as a temporary shelter for disaster-affected residents. The second destination was Padang Pariaman District, where he inspected the construction site of a Bailey bridge in Padang Mantuang, Kayutanam Sub-district.
Following these visits, President Prabowo continued to Lembah Anai in Tanah Datar District to monitor ongoing road reconstruction works, before concluding the tour at Minangkabau International Airport near Padang City for his return to Jakarta.
The president was accompanied by cabinet ministers including Home Minister Tito Karnavian, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia. Senior officials joining the tour included Indonesian military commander General Agus Subiyanto, Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Chief Suhartoyo, and West Sumatra Governor Mahyeldi.
This marked President Prabowo’s fourth visit to Sumatra Island following widespread disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra in late November, caused by prolonged heavy rainfall. During a cabinet meeting on December 15, the president announced plans to conduct weekly visits to affected provinces to monitor recovery progress.
According to BNPB data as of Thursday, the recent floods and landslides have claimed 1,059 lives, left 192 people missing, and affected millions across 52 districts and cities in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.
