Tokyo, December 19, 2025 – The Europe Today: On December 19, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of the Republic of Uzbekistan commenced his official visit to Japan with a meeting with Emperor Naruhito.
During the audience, Emperor Naruhito warmly welcomed President Mirziyoyev, describing the visit as a significant milestone in strengthening friendly relations and the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Japan.
President Mirziyoyev conveyed his deep respect and gratitude to the Emperor for his consistent support of the irreversible reforms underway in the New Uzbekistan. He highlighted the spiritual affinity, shared customs, family values, and centuries-old historical ties between the Uzbek and Japanese peoples, dating back to the era of the Great Silk Road.
Both leaders noted with satisfaction the steady expansion of bilateral cooperation, particularly in education and professional training, as well as in cultural and humanitarian exchanges. To date, more than 3,000 Uzbek specialists have completed internships in Japan, while over 440 students have received higher education through scholarships. Additionally, the Japanese language is taught at seven universities in Uzbekistan.
As part of the current visit, the Days of Uzbek Culture were successfully held in Tokyo, and an archaeological exhibition showcasing the culture and history of Uzbekistan is planned to tour several Japanese cities next year.
Following the meeting, President Mirziyoyev extended an official invitation to Emperor Naruhito to visit Uzbekistan, further underscoring the commitment of both countries to deepen bilateral ties.
