Bucharest, December 30, 2025 – The Europe Today: Romania is poised to reach a historic milestone in its transport infrastructure in 2026, with the country expected to inaugurate the highest number of highway and expressway kilometers in a single year, according to projections by the Construim România Association.
The association estimates that between 200 and 250 kilometers of new high-speed roads could be opened to traffic in 2026, potentially surpassing all previous annual records and marking a significant expansion of Romania’s road network. The anticipated growth is driven by several major projects, including substantial sections of the A3 Transilvania Highway and the A7 “Moldova” Highway, alongside completion works on the A0 Bucharest ring road and other key segments scheduled for delivery next year.
If the projections materialize, Romania’s total network of highways and expressways could exceed 1,800 kilometers by the end of 2027, reflecting sustained efforts to enhance national connectivity and support long-term economic development. Current contracts under execution cover approximately 750 kilometers of new high-speed roads, with a significant portion expected to be finalized by the close of 2027.
The anticipated surge in inaugurations builds on strong progress recorded in recent years, including a notable expansion of the network in 2024 and steady advancements throughout 2025, underscoring Romania’s long-term infrastructure strategy.
The planned enhancements are expected to strengthen domestic and regional mobility, improve road safety, and reinforce economic links within Romania and across neighboring regions, contributing to broader development and competitiveness objectives.
