Ankara, January 2, 2026 – The Europe Today: Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) Chief, Ibrahim Kalin, held a high-level meeting on Thursday with Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, Turkish security sources reported.
The discussions in Ankara centered on the current security situation in Ukraine, the ongoing conflict with Russia, and its wider regional and global implications, according to officials.
During the meeting, both sides explored potential measures to advance peace, reviewed the latest developments in negotiation processes, and considered initiatives aligned with the regional environment.
The talks also focused on the release of Ukrainian prisoners of war held in Russia and the prospects for ongoing or future prisoner exchange efforts between the parties.
Kalin and Umerov underscored the importance of continued systematic cooperation between Türkiye and Ukraine within the framework of existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms.
