Madrid, January 4, 2026 — The Europe Today: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has stated that Spain will neither recognize the government of Nicolás Maduro nor support any U.S. military intervention in Venezuela, warning that such action would violate international law and endanger regional stability.
In a statement issued on social media platform X on Saturday, Sánchez emphasized that while Spain does not acknowledge the legitimacy of Maduro’s administration, it also firmly opposes foreign military action against Venezuela.
“Spain did not recognise Maduro’s regime. But neither will it recognise an intervention that violates international law and pushes the region towards a future of uncertainty and warmongering,” Sánchez said.
The Spanish prime minister stressed the need for de-escalation, urging all parties to prioritize dialogue and diplomatic engagement as the only viable path toward resolving Venezuela’s ongoing political crisis.
Spain’s position reflects a broader European stance advocating peaceful solutions, respect for international law, and the avoidance of actions that could further destabilize Latin America.
