Kazakhstan’s Digital Development Minister Reviews Digital Transformation Progress in Karaganda

Astana, January 11, 2026 – The Europe Today: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhaslan Madiyev paid a working visit to the Karaganda region to review progress in digital transformation and preparations for the large-scale introduction of artificial intelligence solutions, the Prime Minister’s Office reported.

The visit was conducted as part of the Year of Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence, under which systematic work is being carried out with regional authorities to identify priorities for digital transformation in 2026. In cooperation with local akimats and specialized teams, plans for digital development and readiness for the implementation of AI-driven solutions are being coordinated.

During his visit to Karaganda, Madiyev held meetings with regional leaders and relevant government agencies to discuss the current state of digital transformation in the region, the development of the IT industry, and the integration of artificial intelligence technologies into the economy and public administration.

Key topics included the development of telecommunications infrastructure, enhancement of cybersecurity, strengthening regional IT hubs, transformation of digital citizen service centers, implementation of Smart City initiatives, and the digitalization of the real sector of the economy. For each area, recommendations and strategies for further advancement were presented, taking into account regional characteristics and target performance indicators.

Participants also reviewed digital systems currently operating in real time across the region in areas such as public safety, transportation, urban infrastructure, and data management. The effectiveness of these systems in daily operations was assessed, bottlenecks were identified, and measures to improve performance were outlined.

Following the discussions, specific tasks and proposals were formulated for inclusion in the 2026 digital development plan, with a focus on improving citizen convenience, enhancing business efficiency, and ensuring greater transparency of processes.
